QAT FLOW
QAT Flow is a web-enabled process automation and orchestration tool that integrates seamlessly with CA Gen at both design (the model) and run time (the CA Gen applications). It fully automates the business process of the application and the rich web 2.0 user interfaces can be designed and implemented without programming. Business processes are designed in a graphical process model tool and interpretively executed by the process automation engine, which is written with CA Gen and therefore runs natively on all CA Gen supported platforms and seamlessly integrates with existing CA Gen action blocks.
SOA Needs
QAT Flow
SOA is an architectural style for developing distributed systems. It enables loose coupling of services and flexibility. It allows for services to be modified with no impact on the consumer. Services support reuse, and can help preserve and extend the value stored in legacy systems by making their capabilities more widely available.
SOA is a great way to make IT more responsive in development, but it is fundamentally an internal tactical IT initiative. As a result, pure SOA approaches often fail to deliver value, as they lack connection to current business needs.
QAT Flow on the other hand provides the bridge between business goals and IT solutions. It provides a platform for directly implementing the services provided by the SOA Team into the strategic business processes in terms that business users understand. The business process consists of a sequence of tasks, some automated and others performed by people. QAT Flow allows for modeling, simulation, execution, monitoring and most importantly, continuous process improvement. It brings together and coordinates the activities and decision making of people with the systems' data and transaction services.
SOA is clearly the best current architecture for execution of the services that interface with external resources. The role of QAT Flow is to coordinate and monitor the execution of the entire process, including the individual tasks. This is necessary in order to keep your systems from becoming just another monolithic application.
At runtime, QAT Flow automates (without programming) data collection user interfaces and complex processes using a rich Web 2.0 user interface within the QAT WebDaptive open framework. This allows the processes to be to be seamlessly integrated with other native Gen pages and/or hand written pages as a single application by using the CA Gen integration services provided by QAT WebDaptive. The web 2.0 user interfaces provided by QAT Flow are used for data collection and complex process execution that requires no programming. The client has a full set of Web 2.0 user interface controls, formatting, validation, error handling, relational edits and much more.
On the back end, QAT Flow allows for IT services to be registered and reused so it can communicate with your enterprise database. These IT Services include Gen Action Blocks, Web Services and other hand written custom services. Using registered Gen Action Blocks as services is a core feature that allows QAT Flow to rapidly modernize and/or enhance existing CA Gen applications. Once these services are registered by IT, they are re-usable by the process designers.
At design time, QAT Flow provides a graphical process modeling tool that can be used by business or IT analysts to define and automate complex business processes. The CA Gen API is used to consume Gen model objects directly into the process design. The user interfaces used to collect data during the process require no programming and can be designed and implemented by an IT or Business Analyst.
The maintenance process is rapid and flexible. The process definitions can be changed and activated when ready. Examples of common changes include adding, changing or removing fields from the interface, adding changing or removing entire steps in the process or changing the decisions used to guide the sequencing of the steps.
QAT Flow can be used to automate a high percentage of the user interfaces in a typical CA Gen application and maintain the integrity of the business rules by reusing the CA Gen Action Blocks that implement them. It also automates the sequencing of not only the automated pages, but other custom applications pages as they are seamlessly integrated within the process.
